Morocco's prison authorities have announced that inmates will be allowed a single family visit and receive food parcels during the Eid Al-Adha holiday, which begins on May 27.

The Délégation générale à l’administration pénitentiaire et à la réinsertion (DGAPR) said that the visits and food parcels will be allowed from the second day of the holiday, subject to each prison's schedule.

The move is part of the country's efforts to ensure a smooth and safe celebration of the Eid Al-Adha, a significant religious and social holiday in Morocco.

However, the authorities have warned that any attempt to introduce prohibited items during the visits will result in legal action against the visitors and disciplinary sanctions against the inmates.

The Eid Al-Adha is expected to be celebrated with an abundance of food, tightly controlled markets, and closely monitored prices.

The move is significant for the Moroccan economy, as it will help to maintain social stability and ensure a smooth celebration of the holiday, which is crucial for the country's economic and social well-being.

The Moroccan prison population has been declining, with 99,366 inmates in 2025, according to the latest data.

The country's prison administration has also published its new report on activities, highlighting the efforts to improve prison conditions and rehabilitation programs.

The Moroccan government has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Rwanda to strengthen cooperation in the field of penitentiary affairs.

The Eid Al-Adha is a significant event in Morocco, and the authorities' efforts to ensure a smooth celebration will have a positive impact on the country's economy and social stability.
