Dakhla: Surinamese Delegation Explores Cooperation and Investment Opportunities

A high-level delegation from the Republic of Suriname visited Dakhla on Friday to explore the investment opportunities offered by the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and examine the prospects for economic and commercial cooperation with the Kingdom.
This visit falls within the framework of the Suriname Economic Promotion Week in Morocco, organized from May 4 to 10, with the aim of promoting the economic potential of this South American country in several sectors and fostering the development of mutually beneficial partnerships with Moroccan operators.
The Surinamese delegation, led by Reggy Nelson, principal advisor to the President of Suriname, held a series of meetings with the Secretary General of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Abderrazak El Gourji, the President of the Regional Council, El Khattat Yanja, as well as officials from the Regional Investment Center (CRI) and the African Chamber of Commerce and Services.
These meetings focused on the development dynamics of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region in various sectors, as well as ways to strengthen economic exchanges and cooperation opportunities between the two parties.
On this occasion, the members of the Surinamese delegation were informed of the development dynamics of the region within the framework of the new development model of the southern provinces, as well as the economic potential of the region in several areas, including tourism, maritime fishing, infrastructure, renewable energies, and services.
In a press statement, the principal advisor to the President of Suriname, Reggy Nelson, emphasized that this visit allowed him to grasp the full richness and potential of Dakhla, noting that he was impressed by the urban development, infrastructure, and opportunities offered in several sectors.
"Dakhla, a city in full growth at all levels, is rich in opportunities for investors, particularly in tourism and infrastructure," he said, adding that the delegation was able to confirm a strong potential in infrastructure related to fishing and the tourism sector.
Nelson also estimated that Dakhla could be a "true gateway to the African continent" for his country, highlighting that reflections will be engaged upon the delegation's return to Suriname to examine the forms of cooperation that can be developed with the region.
For his part, the President of the Regional Council, El Khattat Yanja, stated that this visit was an opportunity to present the development dynamics and structural projects implemented within the framework of the development model of the southern provinces.
This meeting, he continued, allowed for the examination of ways to strengthen cooperation between the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and the Republic of Suriname, noting that the delegation members expressed their admiration for the development dynamics in all directions that the region is experiencing.
The Surinamese delegation includes several officials representing the public and private sectors, including the Deputy Secretary in charge of international trade, Juan Pawiroredjo, as well as representatives from the commerce, natural resources, and investments sectors.
