Moroccan Chamber of Counselors' Vice President Lahcen Haddad met with a delegation from the European People's Party (EPP) at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Rabat on Tuesday.
This meeting falls within the framework of strengthening parliamentary cooperation relations with European institutions, providing an opportunity to exchange views on ways to develop cooperation between the Chamber of Counselors and PACE, taking into account the advanced relations uniting Morocco to the European Union (EU), according to a Chamber statement.
During this meeting, the importance of elevating these relations to a more comprehensive partnership, based on shared responsibilities and convergence of visions on common issues, was emphasized.
The two parties also reviewed several current political and socio-economic issues, including migration and regional stability, particularly in the Sahel region, as well as the challenges of the energy transition.
They highlighted the need to strengthen coordination and adopt integrated approaches, in addition to exchanging expertise and experiences in legislative and control areas.
On this occasion, Haddad highlighted the openness of the Moroccan Parliament to its European environment, recalling Morocco's role as a reliable and acting partner at regional and international scales.
He also indicated that effective partnerships rely on balance, shared commitment, and common investment in stability, praising the growing role of parliamentary diplomacy in consolidating confidence between partners, particularly in an international context marked by accelerated mutations.
From their side, the EPP delegation members praised Morocco's experience in political reforms and legislative action development, reiterating their willingness to strengthen dialogue mechanisms with the Chamber of Counselors and expand cooperation perspectives, in service of common interests and the strategic partnership between Morocco and the EU, in the face of global challenges.
Participants in this meeting included the President of the Istiqlal Union and Equality Group at the Chamber of Counselors, Abdeslam Lebbar, as well as the President of the same group at the Chamber of Representatives, Allal Amraoui.
