Morocco's ambassador to the US, Youssef Amrani, has embarked on a diplomatic tour of Georgia and Massachusetts.

Between preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and strengthening economic alliances, this visit marks a new step in the 'proximity diplomacy' between Rabat and major American cities.

With less than two months to go before the kick-off of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Moroccan diplomacy is going on the offensive in the US.

The ambassador of the Kingdom to Washington, Youssef Amrani, has multiplied high-level meetings this week in Atlanta and Boston to coordinate the welcome of the Atlas Lions and their supporters, and to capitalize on the sporting momentum to deepen economic and cultural exchanges.

The state of Georgia was the first stop on this diplomatic tour of the Moroccan ambassador.

On April 27, 2026, Youssef Amrani met with the mayor of Atlanta, Andre Dickens, as well as several local officials.

The meetings allowed for the consolidation of a solid economic partnership, carried by the free trade agreement signed in 2004.

Since 2010, Georgia has distinguished itself as one of the main exporting states to the Kingdom, with an annual volume exceeding $88 million.

A fruitful cooperation is in place in cutting-edge sectors such as technology, industry, and agribusiness.

This synergy is indeed illustrated by the growing presence of Georgian companies in Morocco and the valuable contribution of Moroccan skills installed in Georgia.

The most notable announcement of this trip remains the launch, scheduled for October 2026, of a direct air link between Atlanta and Marrakech operated by Delta Air Lines.

For the Moroccan diplomat, this line is a 'new breath' for tourist exchanges and the attractiveness of the Kingdom in the southern United States.

The mayor Andre Dickens, who recently made a trip to Morocco, expressed his pride at seeing these flows intensify.

Saluting the major advances of the country, he said he was convinced that Morocco remains the 'privileged entry point' for American investors and travelers into Africa.

In Atlanta, Youssef Amrani inspected the installations of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which will host the third group stage match of the Atlas Lions, scheduled for June 24 against Haiti.

The diplomat described the Mercedes-Benz Stadium as a 'temple of revolutionary football.' With its state-of-the-art pitch and impressive capacity, the stadium offers, in his view, all the ingredients for a global sporting event.

In the face of this deadline, the authorities of Atlanta have stated that Moroccan supporters will be welcomed with warmth, in line with the 'friendship and fraternity' that unites Morocco, the United States, and the state of Georgia.

In Atlanta, I have been pleased to visit the #Mercedes_Benz_Stadium, a massive sports facility preparing itself to host the 🇲🇦Moroccan Team and supporters on the 24th of June for the game versus Haiti in the group stage of the 2026 #FIFA_World_Cup in🇺🇸.

On April 29, 2026, the diplomatic journey continued to the northeast of the country.

Youssef Amrani visited the city of Boston, capital of Massachusetts.

In this cradle of American innovation and political thought, the ambassador deployed an approach of 'proximity diplomacy,' aiming to consolidate the alliance between the Kingdom and local decision-making centers where the major orientations of American policy are being shaped.

During his high-level exchanges with Governor Maura T.

Healey and Mayor Michelle Wu, Youssef Amrani recalled that this visit is part of a historic commitment.

Governor Healey has indeed expressed her enthusiasm at the idea of receiving the Atlas Lions, highlighting that the Kingdom is 'the most ancient'...
