Morocco's Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch, received US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Rabat on Thursday.
The visit is part of an official visit to Morocco by the US Deputy Secretary of State.
These meetings, attended by the US Ambassador to Morocco, Duke Buchan, provided an opportunity to examine ways to consolidate strategic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States, under the leadership of the two heads of state, King Mohammed VI and US President Donald Trump, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's office.
During this meeting, the Prime Minister expressed Morocco's consideration for the United States' position on the national question, with Washington reiterating its recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara and emphasizing its constant support for Morocco's autonomy proposal, which is considered a unique basis for achieving a just and permanent solution to the Sahara dispute, the same source added.
Akhannouch also welcomed US support for American companies interested in investing in southern provinces of the Kingdom, particularly in the green hydrogen, tourism, agriculture, and renewable energy sectors.
He highlighted the key role Morocco can play as a bridge for American investments in the African continent, within a win-win partnership framework.
The two parties also reviewed opportunities for developing economic, investment, and commercial partnerships between Morocco and the United States and emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation through the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), as well as the importance of accompanying and guiding American operators in the social sector, particularly in education and healthcare.
These meetings also provided an opportunity to recall the depth of historical bilateral relations, dating back to the signing of the 1787 Moroccan-American Treaty of Peace and Friendship, and to express the common aspiration for promising horizons between the two friendly countries, the statement concluded.
