Morocco and the United States Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

During his first tour of the Maghreb region, US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau reaffirmed Washington's constant support for Morocco's sovereignty over its Sahara region and praised the kingdom's strategic role on the international stage.

Morocco's Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, received US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Rabat on April 29, 2026.

This meeting allowed for a review of bilateral issues and regional security concerns.

Following the meeting, Christopher Landau officially reiterated the US recognition of Morocco's full and complete sovereignty over its southern provinces, emphasizing that the Moroccan autonomy plan remains "the basis for achieving a just and durable solution" to the artificial dispute.

US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau took to social media to pay tribute to the quality of the exchange with Nasser Bourita, describing the Moroccan minister as a "highly respected and insightful" partner.

For Washington, Morocco is not only a regional stability pole but also a key interlocutor on global issues.

The meeting was also marked by Morocco's official accession to the Artemis Accords.

By becoming the 64th signatory to this framework for space cooperation led by NASA, the kingdom joins a restricted circle of countries engaged in peaceful space exploration.

Christopher Landau recalled the historical depth of the links between Rabat and Washington.

With nearly 250 years of uninterrupted friendship, Morocco remains the oldest US ally.

This visit confirms the priority given by the US administration to strengthening its partnership with the kingdom, both politically and scientifically.
